The origin of the National League dates back to 1937. In 1986, the playoffs were introduced. In 2007 the name was changed to National League A and in 2017 to National League. Today's National League Ltd. was founded in 2020 as an independent company. The shareholders of the National League Ltd. are the clubs playing in the National League.
The purpose of National League is to promote and develop the sport of ice hockey in Switzerland, which is played professionally at the highest level, in particular by organizing, structuring and conducting the operation of the National League in accordance with international and national regulations.
The National League is responsible for marketing the commercial and, in particular, the advertising and media rights to all National League matches.
